Dual RNA-seq: Host-Pathogen relationships

"Dual RNA-seq" is a potent and very useful recent approach to investigate Host-Pathogen relationships. This approach is possible because of the high throughput of today's Next Generation Sequencing technologies. NGS allows the sequencing of RNA from both, the host and the pathogen. In this way, unknown interactions between the pathogen and the host can be discovered.

However, the design and data analysis of a Dual RNA-seq experiment is a time consuming and complex task. Many things should be considered, and the best option for each variable will depend on the host, the pathogen or the kind of infection. It is important to decide the depth of the sequencing experiment, the kind of processing of the sample, the features of the sequencing libraries and other details crucial for the sucess of the approach. In addition, it is very important to take into account if miRNAs and sRNAs should be detected

After running the experiments, at the analysis step, besides the RNA-seq analysis in itself, it is important to analyze the results trying to decipher the interactions between host and pathogen and, if it is possible, to depict an interaction network between them.

At Era7 Bioinformatics we can help you with all these tasks, from the design of the experiment to the data analysis even including the manual search of knowledge in the literature and the databases to discover Host-Pathogen interaction networks.
